Full-Frame Digital Cinema Sensor

The Blackmagic PYXIS features a massive full-frame sensor with a native resolution of 6048 x 4032—nearly three times the size of a Super 35 sensor—allowing you to capture shallow depth-of-field images or use uncropped anamorphic lenses for a truly cinematic look.

Whether shooting under bright sunlight or in near-dark conditions, its 13 stops of dynamic range and dual native ISO (up to 25,600) deliver stunning low-noise images across a wide range of lighting conditions.

Additionally, you can shoot up to 36 frames per second at full sensor resolution, or perform 120 fps cropped-area recording. This remarkable sensor, combined with Blackmagic’s color science, provides the same imaging capabilities as high-end digital cinema cameras.

*Pak Media 1000 storage drives with the -R0 Designation module, and all Pak Media storage drives with the -R1 Designation, support multi-channel recording.

Flexibility

The built-in large full-frame sensor of the Blackmagic PYXIS allows you to create in various cinematic formats and aspect ratios without compromising image quality. Using the full sensor area, you can achieve a unique open-gate 3:2 image, while easily adjusting composition in post-production.

This large sensor also enables true 6:5 anamorphic shooting without cropping, delivering widescreen cinematic images with higher resolution and more detail than ever.

You can even use the classic Super 35 window mode to create an instant “close-up” version on the sensor, seamlessly blending with open-gate images. All of this allows you to craft highly distinctive cinematic content at the highest quality.

Dual Native ISO for Outstanding Low-Light Performance

In digital cinema, ISO measures the sensor’s sensitivity to light. Higher ISO values increase the sensor’s sensitivity, allowing you to shoot even at night using available light.

The Blackmagic PYXIS features dual native ISO up to 25,600, meaning it is optimized to minimize grain or noise while preserving the full dynamic range of the sensor. The native ISO 400 is ideal for scenes with live lighting, while the higher base ISO 3200 is perfect for low-light environments.

When adjusting the ISO setting, gain is automatically applied, allowing you to capture excellent images even when there’s no time for proper lighting setup.

Built for the real world.
