Yahoo TV Studio

Yahoo Taiwan launched Yahoo TV in 2016, focusing on live-streamed original programs

Planning Process

Early 2016, Makee Studio was invited by Yahoo to assist in transforming an existing large meeting room into two fully functional studios and a control room. This marked the first time in Taiwan that a corporate office building housed a television-grade production studio.

From the initial site survey, Makee provided detailed spatial assessments and a recommended list of filming equipment. Despite limited space, the team successfully built a complete studio setup, fulfilling Yahoo's vision of achieving large-scale productions with a compact team — creating Taiwan’s first new media TV studio, Yahoo TV.

Based on Makee's recommendations, PTZ cameras were used instead of traditional cameras. A single operator in the control room could remotely manage multiple PTZ cameras, enabling high-efficiency, multi-angle production — replicating the effects of a traditional multi-camera TV broadcast with minimal staff.

Key Highlights

Yahoo TV became the first in Asia to adopt the same broadcast architecture
as Microsoft's Channel 9, utilizing the NewTek TriCaster + Panasonic UE-130 PTZ camera system.

Makee helped Yahoo Taiwan build one large and one small studio, as well as two control rooms within the office space, significantly improving the speed and quality of content production.

Makee collaborated with system integrators and construction contractors to build the Yahoo TV studio. Throughout the process, the team carefully communicated and coordinated with all partners to ensure that the hardware installations and construction workflow fully aligned with the overall plan.

After construction, Makee conducted comprehensive training sessions for Yahoo's internal team, ensuring they could quickly master hardware operations. The Makee team also provided ongoing real-time technical support when needed.

Upon Makee’s suggestion, the traditionally dark studio environment was redesigned to include a 3D perspective logo hallway, becoming a signature photo zone for visitors and a highly Instagrammable feature.

The use of PTZ cameras, operable by a single technician, was the first of its kind in Taiwan for a studio of this caliber, drastically reducing manpower costs for enterprise-level content creation.

Yahoo TV quickly integrated with its shopping platform, transforming into a new media shopping channel, offering higher resolution and more engaging visuals, which elevated the production quality and brand experience.

Makee also helped Yahoo TV design and produce custom 3D virtual sets, allowing one physical space to be adapted for multiple program themes — creating flexible, modular environments that aligned with each show’s content.

Under Makee’s expert planning, Yahoo TV was able to operate with a compact team of fewer than 10 people, producing over 10 live TV-grade programs per day.
